This started as a Naval Dirigible base and a USNR Air Station.  When the war started, this became NAS Miami and rapidly expanded.  NAS Miami had two sets of airfields.  Aircraft cold taxi from one side to the other.  The east side was the original USNR and the west side was the dirigible base. Now Opa-Locka airport and still can make out some of the original runways and a number of the original hangars are still there.
