This
is iffy it is truly a CAA intermediate.
An Intermediate was depicted on the 9/1932 Air Navigation Map #34 but
had no number of beacon. The location
is where a general aviation airfield existed named Litchfield Park (now
gone). Need more data to confirm this
or to determine if it was a chart error. |

"Johns" at the same location and it had no beacon. On the 9/1948 Tulsa SAC, a beacon was added

intermediate. All charts after 1949
show it civil with beacon. This is not in count but shown for

This
a confusing intermediate airfield. The
analysis performed on conflicting data, indicates that it had two
locations. This is the first location
with two gravel runways in the shape of a "X". Longest being 3,700x150ft (N/S) and the
second runway was given as 2,100x150ft (NW/SE). This is in Death Valley so the elevation is
below sealevel. The airstrip had the
name of Death Valley Monument Airport and listed as in the public domain
operated by Pacific Coast Borax Co. Some charts show this location as a civil
airstrip during this time frame (Mt. Whitey SACs). It appears to been closed around 1950 as an
intermediate but is charted on charts as a civil airport till 1954. |

It is also depicted on the 1953 Mt. Whitney SAC. It is depicted as a auxiliary airfield on

information exists other than the depiction on the 3/1932 Air Navigation Map

However, a theory has been put for that does make sense that Capay CAA

down in the 1933-34 time frame as it is not listed in any directories. |

In the 1943/44 time frame, a "new" (second) field was
constructed about 4 miles SE. Here it
becomes confusing if it really was an intermediate; listed in 1944 A/N
directory as FS/intermediate and Navy usage;
Listed in 1946 & '48 Haire Directories; There is confusion as to
when this field transitioned to civil operations or if it was ever really was
a true intermediate. No doubt that the
beacon #35 was moved when the new field became operational. The 1944 Elko SAC shows both fields
depicted as civil and the WAC 305 charts do not indicated CAA usage (only
civil). NOT IN
THE COUNT.
