First listing is in 1931and continued through 1938 (not listed in 1939 ADC directory). It is listed as being 1/4 mile south of the court house except for the 1938 DOC (CAA) bulletin #2 which says 3/4 mile south. It is unclear if it was on the east or west side of the RR and highway - I assume on the east side. NOW - the "2nd" Giddings airport was located about 0.5 miles south of this first one if these descsriptions are right. It was uncharted on Austin SACs from 1940 till 1943. That alone does not mean it was not there as some of those early charts are not the most accurate. The second Giddings airport location lasted till it was replaced by the current Giddings-Lee County airport with hard runway. There is a lot of documentation on the second location (if that is correct) so no doubt about its location and characteristics. The first is vague at best. Remains are still visible for the second location. If better information comes available, this may change. | |
