This is the release of the R-5 version of the Colorado data base.

INTRODUCTION:

This maybe the last release of the Colorado database.  The database will remain but not updated unless there is a specific reason or issue.   Work is continuing on other databases.  Usage on this particular database has been low is the reason that this maybe the last release.  A fix or so may occur. These data bases are works in progress.  What I put on the web is an abridged version of the total database.  The full database can be requested (send me an Email).

Colorado, like many states, has had a significant increase in number of private airfields.

As per the other data bases, helicopter fields are not normally entered into this data base unless something unique and would be included.  Ultra-light airfields that are less than 1000 feet in length or normally not included either.

This is the abridged version of the Colorado main data base.  All airfields are presented with earliest and latest entries along with anything that helps to understand the history of the airfield (name changes, special information, etc.).  The unabridged version is a very large excel spreadsheet and is currently approximately 1.0MB in size with over 5,700 entries in it.  Entries can vary from a single entry for an airfield to multiple entries, in chronological order, for an airfield (especially where name changes or operational status varied.

UPDATE HISTORY:

10/18/2009 update - this is a major new release and includes links to over 1,000 photos.  A number of fixes were incorporated that changed the total number of active and closed airfields.  I have generated a Colorado place marks for Google Earth.  If you would like to have them, please Email me.  In some of the photos linked in this release use some of these place marks.  Yellow means active; white is for closed/inactive; red for CAA/FAA intermediates; green for some unique military strips; and blue for oddities.  You can find my Email address on the home page or on the Link page.

12/06/2007 update - this is the full release of the R-4 version of the Colorado data base.

12/03/2007 update - a major review of the data base is in progress.  This is a beta release of the R-4 update as some additional data has not been worked yet.  This release fixes some errors that existed in the data base.  The plan is to have the full release by the end of the year.

9/03/2007 update - the annual review against the FAA 5010 data base.  In this review, a number of airfields were no longer active (closed).  In this release, those items that are have a status of "?" are no longer counted as closed but a separate item.  In this review, the number of "?" is 5.

Some errors were detected and corrected with this release.  Only two "new" fields were added.  23 fields were closed/inactive in this review.  I think a number of these closures were actually inactive fields for some time.  Maybe some got after the owners to get the data corrected.  Some fields are clearly closed despite being still listed as active in the FAA 5010 data base.  If you find "FAA 5010  see remarks" in the source column, you sill see that the majority of these are listed as closed in this data base.

9/02/2006 update - The data base has been reviewed and updated based on the current data in the FAA 5010 data base.  About 10 airfields have been added and one closure.  Minor corrections to a couple of typos.

Update: 4/09/2006 - minor additions and corrections.  Standardization on the legend is incorporated.

The full data base is available by special request.
