PH SAC Q-3 1945 Gila Bend AF Aux No 5   C Ajo Military 32-49-05.869 32.818297 112-54-54.648 112.91518 800 Hard 3 3,700 This field was built in WW2 as an auxillary to Gila Bend AAF.  This is Gila Bend AF Aux No. 5.  Why #5?  The USAAF, during WW2, constructed six (6) auxillary airfields.  Three were assigned to Ajo AAF and three were assigned to Gila Bend AAF.  They were numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.  The most southern field, before Ajo AAF, was given the number 1 and number 6 the one most north - closets to Gila Bend.Aka Ajo AF Aux No 5; Williams AF Aux No 5; Luke AF Aux No 11.
