Built in 1942 and became operational 10/1/1942; Took longer to get built; N/S runway was 6,200x150 ft; and the E/W and NE/SW runways were both 5,200x150 ft.  Initially designated a "gunnery range".  Gila Bend was initially assigned to Luke AAF. Was re-designated an AAF on 5/1/1944. xfered to Williams AAF 10/10/1944.  Later it went back to Luke AAF. Back and forth!
